Goodbye 2020..... and HELLO 2021.
We made it through some real tough times ...but we did it together. At school, we adapted to a new way of learning IN and OUT of the classroom. Our wonderful faculty and staff learned how to teach using new technology to make the most of "distant learning" - BUT WE DID IT.
We are beginning to see the "light at the end of the tunnel"and we are excited to welcome back our students and family to the second semester beginning January 5, 2021.
With prayers for a return to some normalcy....read a letter from our Head of School Jennifer Farris:

Dear Memorial Family:

I hope you and your families had a joyful Christmas season and are looking forward to the new year. I am looking forward to the second semester of the school year and want to make sure we begin it as safely as possible. During the past several weeks our community has seen an increase in COVID-19 cases and they are projected to continue to rise after the holidays with family and friends. Below you will find some updates and reminders regarding our return to school on Tuesday, January 5th. As the semester progresses we will continue to monitor COVID-19 in our community and hope to all be back in school together when conditions improve. Please remember students who are showing any signs of COVID-19 should stay home. I know working together we will continue to keep everyone safe!

• Lower School and Middle School students will return with the same policies in place. Students will continue to be self-contained in their classrooms. Please read below for changes in lunch options.
• High school students will come back to school on our Hybrid plan, but with some modifications.All high school students will come back on the Hybrid plan(last names A-J on Mondays and Wednesdays and last names k - z on Tuesdays and Thursdays)this includes all athletes and students who were coming on other days due to special circumstances. If your athlete will struggle to make it to practice please contact Coach Helmly atThis email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
• We are excited to offer a hot lunch option to our students upon our return to school. Lunches will be boxed and sent to classrooms each day. The lunch will include a drink and will cost $5.00. Please note the first week's menu below.
  • Tuesday, January 5th - Chicken Parmesan over noodles, Italian green beans, and apples
  • Wednesday, January 6th - BBQ meatballs, mashed potatoes, carrots, and banana pudding
  • Thursday, January 7th - Fish, red rice, peas, and jello with fruit
  • Friday, January 8th - Hamburgers, chips, mixed veggies, and peaches
  • Please note the lunch menu will be sent home for Pre-k - 8th grade each Wednesday and will need to be returned each Friday with payment to order for the following week. You will receive a lunch form on Tuesday for only next week and will be asked to return it on Wednesday. High school students will order their lunches during first period each day.

The month of November is half-over and our thoughts turn to those school and family traditions of the holiday season ahead.

During this time of a national pandemic and to assure that we can do what we can to keep our students safe, Memorial Day School will miss our Thanksgiving Family Feast.

Over the years, we have seen this event grow from a turkey dinner served to our lower school and their families to a full-blown feast for over 400 members of our Memorial Day School family. Our memories make us even more conscious of what we need to do to stay safe so that we can return to those wonderful events. Our school administration holds on to the traditions as we continue to monitor the local, state and national guidelines for safe schools during the Covid19 outbreak.

Over the past 3.5 months, our staff and students have cooperated with our rules and we have continued to provide a safe environment while education prevails in the classroom.
The month of November also means the end to football season and the beginning of basketball season. This too gives us an opportunity to share the joy of being with one another during school events, yet again, with a little different atmosphere. Social distancing, mask ordinances, and limited seating are necessary for all of us to remain safe and to continue to be aware of our current situation.

Doing what is right and doing it together is truly what family is all about AND there is no better family than ours at Memorial Day School.
As the semester draws to a close, we want to take this opportunity to wish everyone a HEALTHY & HAPPY HOLIDAY SEASON. We love our staff, faculty, students and their family. When we adopted our new "tag line" last year, the one word resonated throughout our community. We have even had several other businesses begin to use this single word to express care, to express love, and to express their dedication to their clients.

It all started at Memorial and it continues every single day because we truly and honestly mean it....... at Memorial Day School

It's September 2020 and we are entering in to our 2nd month of school during this very unusual time in our lives.
Our students and faculty are doing great and adapting to our hybrid-virtual style of learning. Sure, we miss seeing each other everyday but we are making the most of what we can get done and we will get through this together.
Monday & Wednesday at school and Friday at home or Tuesday & Thursday at school and Friday at home ..... we are getting it done.
Living in the "new norm" makes us all so much more appreciative of what we have had and we are all looking forward to getting back to being in the same classroom, enjoying lunch together and sharing stories, pep rallies, and celebrations shared with everyone. We will get there soon and we are taking it all in stride one day at a time.
In the meantime, our Volleyball Team has found some great success stories, Varsity Football is getting ready to kick off and we can share those moments as long as we adhere to the guidelines set down by our administration.
Thank you teachers and administrative staff for doing an awesome job making sure we continue on our path to receive an awesome education. Thank you parents for cooperating and making our school so successful. Together we are getting each done because we realize that at Memorial Day School, we all matter.

WELCOME HOME !!

It has been a while since we all walked the halls of Memorial Day School. The Covid-19 pandemic has presented many challenges to all of us but we have responded by working together.

There is no where better than those very same hallways to see what working together can do. The Board of Directors, Administrative staff and faculty of our school have been diligent in preparing for the 2020-2021 school year. There has been hundreds of hours of research, of participating in webinars and speaking with experts in the field - and we are ready. We are ready to bring the best educational experience to our students that we can with up-to-date technology and upgrades to our school facilities.

You will immediately see our progress as you turn down Hampton Street. Some new signs and a repaved parking lot will greet you even before you exit your automobile.

Classrooms have been prepared to meet guidelines for social distancing and state-of-the art technology will help our faculty to teach remotely when necessary. We are ready for our families and our students.

We are excited to see what the school year will bring and TOGETHER we will make it work because YOU matter.
