It was just a week ago when our pep rally kicked off the start of the Matador Fun Run fundraiser.  The money that our students and families raise will be used to improve the technology in and out of the classroom making it easier to do research, watch important videos and complete important class assignments.

Our students were challenged to raise $10,000.00 and the response has been nothing shy of phenomenal.  The faculty put out "mini-challenges" to their classes and by the end of the first 5 days .... the first goal had been achieved.

Now....the second goal of reaching $15,000.00 is close and achieveable.

The MATADOR FUN RUN is scheduled for Thursday, April 18th on our field. There will be tents, flags, music, and a whole lot more going on. We need volunteers to help out between 8:00 AM - Noon. It's an early dismissal day. Our spring break starts that Friday.

Memorial Day School sophomore, Elijah Darling, returns from the 2019 Chatham County Youth Commission Legislative Tour. Eli is one of a select few students from across the county, who have been nominated by their schools and chosen by their peers to form the commission. These students' primary goals are to learn about government, and to participate in the process as representatives of their fellow young citizens. The group visited Washington, D.C., Wilmington, DE, and New York City.

Julian Roberts, a defensive lineman from Memorial Day, will be staying close to home as he signed with Savannah State on Wednesday.

Roberts was a game changer at the line of scrimmage for the Blue Thunder, helping lead the team to a GISA state crown as a junior.

“He’s got everything you look for want in a player with his size, speed and ability,” Memorial Day coach Justin Creager said. “He’s smart in the classroom and on the field, and he has the personality of a football player.”

Roberts said he is excited about staying close to home.

“I liked the environment when I visited and I realized there’s nothing better than home,” Roberts said. “I like the energy of the new coach (Shawn Quinn).”

With SSU recruiting more locally, Roberts will be able to play with friends he grew up with in Savannah.

“It will be real cool to see the familiar faces in a new environment,” Roberts said. “I look forward to creating new bonds and a brotherhood, and being able to have my family come out and support me.”
