Julian Roberts, a defensive lineman from Memorial Day, will be staying close to home as he signed with Savannah State on Wednesday.
Roberts was a game changer at the line of scrimmage for the Blue Thunder, helping lead the team to a GISA state crown as a junior.
“He’s got everything you look for want in a player with his size, speed and ability,” Memorial Day coach Justin Creager said. “He’s smart in the classroom and on the field, and he has the personality of a football player.”
Roberts said he is excited about staying close to home.
“I liked the environment when I visited and I realized there’s nothing better than home,” Roberts said. “I like the energy of the new coach (Shawn Quinn).”
With SSU recruiting more locally, Roberts will be able to play with friends he grew up with in Savannah.
“It will be real cool to see the familiar faces in a new environment,” Roberts said. “I look forward to creating new bonds and a brotherhood, and being able to have my family come out and support me.”
